Stand Out from the Crowd
How do you stand out from the crowd?
It’s a great question, especially if there are hundreds or even thousands of other interior designers in your community or city. I recorded this quick video in Álamos, Sonora to share my thoughts with you on this important subject:
Although the idea of “standing out” can feel super overwhelming, there are a couple of things that really work to your advantage when it comes to applying this concept to your practice.
The first is to keep in mind that nobody else is exactly like you. When you remember this and combine it with effective marketing strategies, you’ll stand out and quickly become THE fabulous, must-work-with, one-of-a-kind interior designer you know you are.
But if you want to stand out in your community, you also have to be seen.
And when I say to be seen, it’s about more than just getting into your local media or having a spread in a magazine (although both can be very helpful).
Publicity alone isn’t enough.
You’ve got to share who you really are with the world. Share your creative inspiration, your spirit, your passion – those qualities that are unique to you and no one else.
Nearly every designer uses the same process for creating a design – that’s not unique. Nor is saying that you “really listen to your clients,” because that should be a given. (You won’t last very long in business if you don’t listen to your clients!)
Instead, focus on what makes working with you special… and that’s you! Are you eclectic, a music lover, adore travel to exotic places, big on family, prefer cats to dogs? What’s special about you, and how is it related to your passion and skill as an interior designer?
Once you know who you are, and are truly comfortable with being seen, that’s when marketing comes in.
There are so many tactics you can employ to market yourself and your business: social media, a newsletter, public relations… but the key to success is to first come up with a strategy. By developing a plan first, you’ll save crucial time, money, and energy!
Developing a plan helps you create the dream business you always wanted – the one that allows you to do more of what you love as an interior designer: designing with your ideal clients who appreciate your work and pay you well… so you can do more of what you want, when you want, inside and outside of your business.
To sum up: you’re amazing, and to stand out from the crowd, let yourself shine, and the right clients will respond.
If you’re ready to start attracting more of your ideal clients to your practice, then let’s talk!
I’m ready to collaborate with you… if you’re ready to take your business, designs, and life to the next level!
