Girls Weekend Away in Santa Fe

 In Mindset, Things We Love

Even my stress was stressed.

My days were jam-packed with multiple demanding project deadlines, planning and hosting a surprise 70th birthday party weekend for my mother-in-law, and wrestling with new, unfamiliar marketing tools that inflamed that old, uncomfortable feeling within me of trying something new. It was no bueno!

So what did I decide to do? Why, skip town for a Girls Weekend Away in Santa Fe, of course!

Seems like the opposite of the right thing to do, no?!

After all, when overwhelm is in full force, for many of us our instinct is to buckle down, put the pedal to the metal, and white-knuckle it until all our projects, tasks, and deadlines are complete.

But that’s just it: one of the keys to being a successful business owner is to take the time to rest and rejuvenate, to get out of our normal routine and go see something new, to have a new experience so we can get back to running this marathon we call life with fresh legs.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not talking about getting distracted: seeing something shiny and deciding to follow it instead of taking care of your responsibilities.

What I’m talking about is to take some time to stop and reflect, and to ask yourself:

1) What is this stress really about?
2) Is it truly important in the bigger scheme of things?
3) Do I have the power to change this – or do I just need to get it done?

To that end, I sat down and created an outline of all my deadlines, projects, and stressors. Then, reflecting upon them, I reminded myself that I had more control over them than they had over me.

So I took the weekend off to connect with my best girlfriends. We began by spending a glorious afternoon at 10,000 Waves, the Japanese-inspired spa in the mountains above Santa Fe.

TIP: If you only have time to do ONE THING in Santa Fe… this place should be it!

That was followed by a series of delicious meals, exploring some of the most magnificent pieces of artwork in the Canyon Road Galleries, an afternoon at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, a very late night at Meow Wolf (more on that in a future post) and nonstop laughter and joy shared with my dearest friends.

Sometimes you can feel stuck because you’re overworked. You may even feel paralyzed about deciding what steps to take next in your business. Maybe you don’t know where your next client is going to come from, or how you’re going to get all your deadlines taken care of with everything else that’s going on in your life.

Feeling this way isn’t bad – it only becomes a problem if you don’t do anything about it.

Instead, go do something new or different: a weekend away with friends is obviously my favorite, but it could be something as simple as visiting a local museum, going for a walk, or seeing a movie at your local art house.

Whatever it is – just go do something.

Then, after that, if you still feel like you’re ready for a change and could use some help, reach out and get it. If it’s a business challenge you’re facing, CLICK HERE to schedule a breakthrough session with us to talk about it.

Together we can help you create an action plan for the next steps to conquering your worry or overwhelm, and for getting back in the driver’s seat of your business, life, and future.

Until then, take good care of yourself – and stay amazing!
